Fantasy Teaching - A Real Sport - A real Twitter chat

Today I participated in perhaps the most amazing chat I've been part of on Twitter: Fantasy Teaching (#fantasyteaching - hashtag creator? Josh Stumpenhorst @stumpteacher). This spontaneously started hashtag was created out of a conversation I had no part in and quickly developed as a discussion around creating a fantasy team of teachers. What would you look for? How would you score it?

At first there were two teachers, then four, and then dozens from around the country and world joining in. It all seemed silly at first. Deducting points for showing Disney movies, adding points for handing out fruit in class. But if you watch it from a distance you start to see that this is the ultimate discussion.

Here are teachers who are most interested in doing everything great in education and they are throwing out their ideas on what that would take. AND they are suggesting a point value for each idea. I can't possibly capture every idea on here, for that you will need to follow the hashtag on Twitter. But here are some good ones:

Running a club or group...without pay +5 pts

Passing on administrator praise directed at you to your team members: + 6

LOVING this theme! Letting kids use their smart phone to look up definition of a word +2

Everything from in class to extra-curricular to professional development is being discussed. Maybe this hashtag will live on, maybe it will die quickly. If you get a chance, take a look and see what you would add to the discussion.
